A veterinary clinic is a facility where animals are brought to be treated for illnesses and injuries or to be euthanized. Veterinary clinics offer a wide range of medical treatments, including general care, vaccinations, and preventative care. A veterinary clinic typically employs veterinarians, technicians, and animal care specialists who provide medical and surgical care to animals.

Veterinarian assistants are often employed in vet clinics helping veterinarians or administering medications or treatments prescribed by veterinarians; preparing food, cleaning cages and kennels, bathing pets before surgery, providing bedding for cages, preparing instruments for use in surgery, and administering anesthesia.

Although veterinarians are experts in animal health, they cannot diagnose and treat their patients on their own. It is common for veterinarians to collaborate with other specialists in order to provide the best care for animals. Pets that require surgery will usually be referred by veterinary clinics to an animal surgeon who has a higher degree of training than the veterinarian at the clinic.

Veterinary clinics often provide grooming and boarding services, pet supplies like food and vitamins, dental care, veterinarian home visits, and emergency care. Some veterinary clinics also offer diagnostic tests such as X-rays, ultrasounds, and blood tests. Tests like these can help identify diseases that are causing your pet pain or discomfort and allow them to be treated sooner rather than later.
